Mike Biss & Cath Woodman came away from the Kent Rally celebrating their second win from two rallies so far this year. They were pushed close by both Doug Kingsley/PRAR and Gordon Popperwell/Gavin Rogers, but in the end silly mistakes saw Biss/Woodman emerge triumphant.
Setting a good trend, a full entry of 35 gathered at Westerham, with a mix of Historic cars to spice things along a bit. With Chin making full use of the Blue book and interesting night was to ensue...
The first few sections were not to difficult, but stolen codeboards caused a few worries. The route used the suprisingly narrow and twisty lanes on the North Downs to full effect, TC3 issuing the first penalties to the experts. Indifferent weather conditions left the route with a combination of mud, slime and water all adding spice to the proceedings.
Making use of the complex triangles at Otford Court and the spectatorless Kemsing hairpin the route wended it's way down into the Weald. The photo point just before MTC13 proved to be a source of of amusement to many, a deep puddle on the inside of a hairpin (handbrake!) left made for spectacular photography.
The long section up to TC18 caught out quite few crews, most only dropping a minute, but this was where Biss/Woodman came to the front. The next section was the dreaded regularity. Fortunately Chin had been kind enough to provide due times at the ITCs and as a result the penalties were not catastophic. Popperwell/Rodgers were the most accurate with a total penalty of 19s. Biss/Woodman could only manage 33s, but most people were within a minute of correctness.
Barrelling on towards petrol the route took in familiar roads - The Roydon Hall loop seems to have featured on most of the Kent Rallies in the last decade. At petrol the standings were:

Beckham/Clark were leading the Semi-Expert class. The Novices were lead by Andy Evans/Ian Thompson on a comfortable 3m49s, with Peter Sandeman/Andrew Kilby heading the Historics with 13m28s.
The second half returned to the Downs roads, moving onto map 177. The twisty section to TC35 saw more minutes being liberally doled out. More importantly it saw Popperwell/Rogers miss a codeboard. They had completed the loop correctly, but following another car too closely must have missed it in the dust. This left Kingsley/PRAR as Biss/Woodman's only challengers.
With another regularity to complete there was a slim chance. Kingsley/PRAR posted 4s, moving to a total of 1m38s. Biss/Woodman made a relative hash of the section dropping 49s (giving a total of 1m25s). The final section allowed Biss/Woodman to stamp their authority on the event. 14 coded map references left Kingsley/PRAR with a minute's penalty. Biss/Woodman were able to clean the section (if only the tables were reversed - Ed).
Beckham/Clark maintained their lead in the Semi-Experts, coming in 10 minutes ahead of the venerable Barbara Carter/Calvin Fenwick. Mike Frank/Stephen Brumpton secured the novices, after Evans/Thompson picked up a fail. Andy Gibson/Steve Bubb took the Historic award, Sandeman/Kilby unfortunately being OTL.
