Aim

SE-gen provides a means for distributing gen of interest to Railway Enthusiasts in the former Network South East area. It is not a substitute for Rail-Gen, but items which are not necessarily worth posting to Rail-Gen may be posted to SE-gen. Examples could be:

SE-gen is a gen list, please only post live or advance gen. Do not post old gen or long lists of observations. Please do not post anything which is not relevant to the South East. I am not going to set formal boundaries but the the intention is to cover the former NSE area. There is some overlap between SE-gen and Anglia-Gen and WessexRailGen. In the past SE-gen was very much London orientated, this just reflected what was happening.

How to subscribe

• Via the WWW

• Via Email (Eudora, Outlook, Blackberies, etc)

  Simply send an email to SE-gen-subscribe@yahoogroups.com then follow the instructions in the reply.

   

• Via RSS (Really Simple Syndication)

  Simply point your RSS browser at http://rss.groups.yahoo.com/group/se-gen/rss

   

How to post

Before you can post you must be a member of the list. Once you are subscribed you can post gen by emailing it to SE-gen@yahoogroups.com. You can use multiple addresses to post gen but you must register them online first.

To post using a mobile send a message to SE-gen@yahoogroups.com using A&A. They have set up a short cut so you need only send SE Gen goes here, keep it concise to +447815088091 to post to the list. You can also use eXcell and Connectotel but you need to register with them first.

You can use other SMS to email services provided they post from addresses subscribed from the list.

You can also post using the web form at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/se-gen/post.

How to unsubscribe

Post a message to SE-gen-unsubscribe@yahoogroups.com and follow the instructions in the reply. You must post from the account where SE-gen is being received. You can also use the website.

Guidelines

• Only post in plain text - no MIME, no attatchments etc. (SE-gen is deletes attachments as an anti-viral measure.)
• Keep postings concise.
• Make sure they are accurate.
• Make sure you include a time/datestamp in the subject (that way old gen can be easily identified).
• Don't over abbreviate, not everbody knows SAA is St Albans Abbey or that 1E55 is the 1812 London Bridge Uckfield.
• If somebody makes an incorrect post don't post abuse, a simple correction will do just fine. If you want to abuse other posters then do it off list.
• No Flame wars!
• Remember if you use an SMS-email gateway they all give out your phone number even if you cannot see it.
• Do not be afraid to crosspost to other lists, ie specific gen on 73s should go to 73-gen as well as SE-gen. Really big workings (eg 59203 resuing a failled Gatwick Express) should always be posted to Rail-Gen.
